"Great, kid. Let's go."
She and Marcus headed for the elevator. The doors opened, and they moved inside.
"Here," she took the keys from the Grunt's belt, activating the elevator to go to the seventh floor.
The elevator dinged, and the doors opened.

He was awoken from his daydreaming with a rude ding. Down the hall, the elevator opened. Two Haven Corp workers emerged, another Grunt and a maintenance worker.
Francis eyed them suspiciously. He hadn't seen either of these two before.
He stood, and approached.
"Hey, what are you doing up here?"

Gary McGrunty put on a quizzical expression.
"Me? Working. Is the day shift always this suspicious?" he said, attempting to look and sound genuinely confused as to why he shouldn't be up there. His brows furrowed and his lips moved slowly but deliberately as they formed his words. He also let his lids droop a little, and a grain of irritation enter his voice, as if he were tired.

"It's funny you bring up tracing communications. Yours have been masked for weeks. The Lialtan police have had a hell of a time getting information on you."
She paused for a minute, making sure to note the cell phones people had pointed at them. Now was not the time to blow her cover.
"And if it weren't for Mew, I would be covered in burned from your sneak attack! Come quietly, Hayes. Before anyone else gets hurt."

Alright, so it was coming to this now. Time to up the game a bit.
"Well, anything masking communication is news to me. I can't help but wonder how quickly your baby sister was able to track me down after I escaped from your Mew nearly killing me."
He stopped a moment and looked around to the people currently video taping.
"Residents of Fiume, I wonder how transparent Ms. Rossi and her company are!"
Aden turned to look right at Giulia.
"Tell me, Ms. Rossi. Is it true that you're holding a League Gym Leader - Kurtis Ise, on one of the floors of the Haven Corp building?"

"And they sent me to repair one of the toilets on the floor," Olivia quickly thought. This was not going well.

"Yeah, right," Francis wasn't fooled. He grabbed a Pokeball.
"I play poker with the night shift every Saturday. You don't work here!"
The Grunt has challenged Marcus and Olivia to a Singles Battle, 3v3. The first to post will accept the challenge!

Ah shit, thought Marcus. Just Spiffy.
"Yeah, yeah. Looks like you'll get some exercise after all, boys." Marcus pulled out three Pokeballs, ready to battle. He looked as if he was resigned to do something annoying and in the way, like taking a detour around road construction.

Kurtis heard the commotion outside. He beat against his cell door.
"Help! I'm in here! Help!"
He wasn't sure if anyone could hear him, but he hoped.

"Validus!" Marcus called out, releasing his Scizor.
"Weezing!" retorted the guard.
"Evolve!" ordered Marcus, lifting his keystone. The Scizor glowed bright with the brilliance of Mega Evolution, and even as it was still evolving, Marcus commanded, "U-Turn!"
The brilliance of Mega-Evolution shot at the Weezing, bursting into a Mega-Scizor, but the guard, while surprised, reacted timely. "Will-O-Wisp!"
Mega-Scizor flew right into the flames, getting slowed down drastically as the flames clung to it. However, it still clubbed into the Weezing before spinning artfully into the arc of the Pokeball's capture beam.
"Your Turn, Aeolus!" said Marcus, releasing a Noivern. The large bat pokemon shot up into the air of the lobby, and at Marcus's command of "Hurricane!" the Noivern released a large blast of air. The guard ordered the Weezing to use Pain Split in response. However, the gaseous Weezing rode the changing air currents of the room to its advantage, and with both Pokemon relatively unscathed, the move had little effect. Meanwhile, the power of the Noivern's move shattered a handful of windows and blasted around furniture. Marcus ducked a stray Pokemon Today! Magazine while calling out, "Use Hurricane over and over! Blow it away!"
The barrage of winds required everyone present to navigate a close-quarters mix-up of flying decor and the occasional lounge chair caught by a direct hit. However, the guard still wasn't phased by the ploy, which would otherwise make it hard for a trainer to keep their mind on battling.
"Pain split!" the guard ordered, and this time, after the Weezing was blown into a wall with the full force of one gust, the move was effective. Aeolus the Noivern looked pained, but kept doing as Marcus ordered. The Weezing managed to round another gust and release a sludge bomb right at Aeolus before it drifted right into the next gust and was slammed into a wall, unconscious. Marcus ordered the Noivern to cease as fast as he could, not wanting to bash the fainted Pokemon any more.
The Noivern's face had been plastered by the sludge, and it wasn't having a great time. "Go, Bisharp!" roared the guard. "Sucker punch!"
The move was faster than Marcus. It nailed his Pokemon before he could think to recall it, knocking the larger but hurt and distracted Noivern out with one clean hit.
"Go, LegBiter! Waterfall!" responded Marcus, giving the guard a cold look. The guard responded likewise, and ordered a Swords Dance. As the Bisharp got its battle mojo going, the Kabutops Marcus sent out shot at it, with the speed to scale waterfalls. As it passed the Bisharp, it hit it with one claw, then skidded, turned, and at Marcus's command the Kabutops shot back toward him with the same move, hitting the still-dancing Bisharp again.
With LegBiter having his back turned from the second Waterfall, the guard quickly used the opening with his injured Bisharp. "Sucker Punch!"
But before the second syllable was out, Marcus was giving an order as well. "Aqua Jet!"
The Bisharp moved fast, with the same brutal speed that had knocked out Marcus's Noivern, this time emphasized by the Swords Dance battle focus.
The steel Pokemon's punch could no doubt knock the Kabutops out the large, partially broken windows of the seventh floor.
A blur of motion, the Kabutops, surrounded in a jet of water it had summoned, smashed into the fast Bisharp with such speed that even Marcus, expecting and looking for exactly that, hadn't been able to quite follow the Pokemon with his eyes. The Bisharp was knocked off of its feet, onto its back, sent into unconsciousness like someone had hit a switch.
The guard was not pleased.
"HITMONLEE. FAKE OUT," came the cold fury of the security professional.
"Waterfall!" retorted Marcus, and the Kabutops reacted quickly. However, the Hitmonlee hit first. The move wasn't very effective, but it made the Kabutops flinch. The Hitmonlee dropped a small gem, and at the same time, both guard and Marcus called out a Close Combat and Waterfall respectively.
The Hitmonlee was still faster, and this time struck mercilessly, dodging the Waterfall and countering with a springing head-kick that only a Hitmonlee could pull off. Marcus returned the Kabutops immediately.
"Shit. Validus. It's on you. Bullet Punch."
"Close Combat again! Don't stop attacking!" ordered the guard, and both trainers faced down with cold looks.
The Pokemon clashed as Mega-Scizor shot at Hitmonlee, hitting it solidly. However, the Hitmonlee didn't back off, retorting with the flurry of kicks. The Scizor barely avoided the finishing blow that had knocked the Kabutops out, taking the rest of the hits with a steel grimace.
Then, in unison, both guard and Marcus ordered their Pokemon, "Bullet Punch!"
The Hitmonlee hit first, but the move didn't hit any spots vulnerable from previous blows. The Mega-Scizor, however, clocked the Hitmonlee with a solid, closed pincer. Its bug wings fluttered faster than the eye in a blur as they released the steel Pokemon's heat buildup, clearly close to overclocking from the strenuous battle.
The Hitmonlee, however, went to a knee before collapsing. Marcus and Validus had won.

Francis hung his head, as he returned his Hitmonlee to its Pokeball.
"I'm so getting fired for this," he told himself, running past the trainers.
"You haven't heard the last of Francis McGinty!" he warned, raising his middle finger at the two as the elevator doors closed.
The Grunt has been defeated! Marcus earned $1000, and found a key the Grunt dropped on his way out.

Giulia sneered at the gym leader's question. The man was trying to bait her into making a mistake. He had no idea who he was messing with.
"You're a monster, bringing him in on all of this. He survived a deadly attack, orchestrated by none other than yourself," she grew visibly distraught, faking an angry tear for the PokeGears recording the situation.
"How could you lie to him? How could you look that man in the eyes after what you did and lie to his face? You've perverted his mind, and you've perverted the League! I rescued Kurtis, and he's currently working with our best licenced counselors and therapists at HavenCorp right now. We're trying to help him!"
She looked down. Now it was time to send it home.
"Please, Aden, come quietly," she saw several PokeGears in sight now.
"You once taught me when I challenged your gym the importance of friendship, both with our Pokemon," she looked at him with tears in her eyes, "and with each other. On our friendship, I offer you one last chance. Turn yourself in."

Clearly Giulia was more capable of holding her facade than Aden had first given her credit for. He shook his head, not in defeat but disbelief. That she were so committed to what she was doing that she was willing to take down whoever she felt a threat appalled the Fire Gym leader. He looked around to the crowd of people with a sigh.
"Ms. Rossi, I don't lie to anyone. It has and will never be part of who I am. I have nothing to hide and if you wish a sign of good faith, here."
Aden removed his pokegear from his pocket, and after a few quick button presses he handed it to her. The words on the screen were easy enough for her to read, but no one recording would know.
'You know what the word distraction means, I presume?'
He would not make any move to leave, or attack, or anything. He stood there waiting. If she attacked him without proper provocation the world would know who the true monster was. If she simply left, they would believe whatever Aden typed a threat. He was okay with that - for now. He didn't expect to win all at once, but little victories here and there would have to do.
