"You can't just take a Pokemon that you didn't battle! You thief!"
Ben was back on his feet, visibly angered. Jeffrey was at his feet, tail ablaze.
"You think you're such a good trainer? Fine. You won't get that Abra without a battle."
Ben looked down at his Pokemon.
"You ready Jeffrey?"
The Charmander nodded gleefully.

Rachel frowned. "I'm not a thief just because you couldn't catch a Pokemon and you think the one I actually caught is the same one."
She barely hesitated at the battle challenge. "Ready Ajax? Watch this, Nidoran."
The Cubone faced off with Jeffrey the Charmander, ready to battle.

"Jeffery, get ready! Dragon Dance!" Ben ordered.
Rachel called out, "Ajax, use Bonemerang!"
The Charmander moved in a circle, practically glowing with fiery power as it built up its attack. Ajax, the Cubone, hurled its bone weapon with a practiced movement. It went right past the dancing Charmander.
"Now! Flare Blitz!"
Rachel wasn't familiar with the move Ben had just ordered his Charmander to use, but it didn't matter. She smiled smugly, and crossed her arms, not saying anything to Ajax. The Charmander's flame built to a crescendo. The Cubone made a motion as if shielding itself from the heat, its little thumbed paw open. Then there was a thunk! sound as the Bonemerang whacked Jeffrey upside the head on its return journey, dissipating the powerful move the Pokemon had been about to use and knocking it flat.
The bone returned to Ajax's open hand, and Rachel said, "There. Had enough?"

Ben was silent. He returned the fainted Jeffrey to his Pokeball.
"You did your best," he told the Pokemon.
The anger rose through his body. He grit his teeth and he balled his fists.
"Go away. Now."

Rachel rolled her eyes at the posturing. "Right, because what? You're going to punch me?" she scoffed as she and her Pokemon returned to getting ready for the run they had been trying to go on when Ben had interrupted.
Then they set off jogging at a leisurely pace.

Julian was also a recent addition to Azzurra, having arrived almost as recently as Ben and Rachel. He had taken his time in town before making his way out into the islands wilderness, somewhat aimlessly but hoping to find some purpose in the wandering, willing the day to fate. His Pidgeot, Prism, was out stretching its wings, and it was Prism who actually brought Ben and Rachel's disagreement to his attention. He was too late to catch anything but the end of the battle, however, and he wouldn't have intervened even if he had caught more of it. He walked toward the site of the battle anyway as he saw Rachel start jogging, and Prism lighted to the ground near him.

From the hilltop avenue Odette could gazed out upon the blue expanse of ocean, its waves crashing upon the crags far below. She sat in the shaded gothic colonnade of the scenic cafe, having just finished a meeting with the Isle of Azzurra Board of Tourism. She sipped gently upon the last of her espresso somewhat resenting it bitter tinge, awaiting her driver to bring the car around. Much had happened since she arrived into the region, first the funeral for the former gym leader of the isle, it had been a quiet affair, with little fanfare and opulence. Despite her best effort Odette was glad to see the period of mourning pass and the colorful life return to the pushed together homes and shops, the banners that hung from almost every ornate iron street light, on the town's narrow and winding roads no longer hung in black. She was finally able to relax, well as much as one could do when overseeing a pokemon breeding facility, especially one of its size and complexity. There was of course the curious meeting she had with a homeless youth, but that was a issue for another time.
A small, compact yet undeniably stylish convertible in an almost royal blue came to a slow stop in front of the Cafe, her driver stepping out and greeting her with a short bow. Odette stood, her Kyogre marking print wrap dress was thankfully light , while cool in the shade the sun while gentle threatened to make anything heavier uncomfortable to wear. Rushing to her side the driver opened her door, stepping in Odette slipped on a wide brimmed hat in a poor attempt at avoiding a sunburn.
With a satisfactory heave the car drove forward, the sea air gentle upon her face. The town in its floral and renaissance glory passed like a rich tapestry, opening onto the splendor of the flower fields and the rolling green of the isle. Only the top of the three domes of the breeding facility just barely visible from afar. Slowing the car came to a stop, just ahead she could two fresh faced trainers battling. She watched with slight interest more annoyed that they were battling practically in the middle of the road. Once it was over the continued animosity between trainers was obvious. Juliet, the leafeon, who had been sleeping in the back seat poked its head up sleepily, wondering at what the commotion was.

She panted as she pedaled down the road. The bicycle rattled across the grass and gravel, past flocks of Mareep and gorgeous flowers and trees.
The gym attendant hurried don the road, until she saw Odette, the Pokemon breeder, driving in her car.
Three other trainers were there too.
"Help!" Rebecca called. She had been an attendant at the Pokemon Gym for only a couple months, an intern from the Pokemon League. But with Etienne gone, and Beatrix, well...
"Are you trainers? I need your help!"
She stopped on her bicycle and tried to catch her breath.
"Please, I'm Rebecca, from the Azzurra Gym. Ampharos of the lighthouse has gone missing!"

Ben looked up from his shame, startled by the arrival of so many people.
"I don't know how much help I can be, but I'll help you look?"
Ben's voice was quiet, and he didn't seem sure of how to help the woman.

Rachel immediately paused her run at the call for help.
"Hey, Ajax, Rex, looks like someone wants us for something." Rachel's Pokemon seemed to understand and together the three jogged back. Rachel picked up Rex the Nidoran and carefully petted him, avoiding the poisonous spines and scritching behind his ears.
Ajax the Cubone took a stance next to her, looking up at the Gym attendant.
Rachel didn't say anything but just listened and considered what the woman was saying, waiting for more specific details that could tell her how she might be able to help.

Julian took the new happenings in with what could be called serenity on the outside, if not quite on the inside. It seemed that Azurra would provide him something to do indeed. "Come on Prism," he said, holding the pokeball out for the large bird. Prism obliged by retreating inside, while Julian waited for more details on what they could do about the missing Ampharos.

Odette took the news in a more stoic manner then she anticipated, choosing stifle her sigh of disbelief. The Leafeon had placed its head on her lap hoping to catch a few idle pats from its trainer alas Odette had stood up a bit in her seat and turned to face the Attendant. For a peaceful island paradise there sure was a lot going wrong all at once.
"Well I doubt it couldn't have gotten far with out someone seeing it. What happend?" Odette asked with a light authoritative undertone.

Rebecca was beginning to catch her breath. The trainers all seemed willing to help, even if they were caught off guard.
"I was on my way to the Pastore Farm," Rebecca explained, "Mr. Pastore has a flock of Mareep and Flaafy that Ampharos likes to spend time with."
She looked at the trainers, eyeing their willingness to help.
"But I also need to check in town, and see if anyone saw anything, especially near the lighthouse. Old Man Giuseppe likes to sit outside his perfume shop near the lighthouse and drink espresso, but he wasn't there when I left the gym."
She hung her head.
"I was busy training my Pokemon, and didn't notice Ampharos was gone until it was too late."
Tears were beginning to well in her eyes.
"Please help me. If Etienne returned and Ampharos is missing, on top of everything that's happened with Beatrix..."

"I'll go with you to the Pastore Farm," Ben offered, hoping to abate the tears in the poor attendant's eyes.
"We could even split up!" he usually didn't like talking this much, but Rebecca's plight made him feel too uncomfortable. He needed to do something.
"But poor Jeffrey," Ben remembered. He grabbed his Pokeball, letting the exhausted Charmander out.
"Here, buddy," Ben used a Full Restore on the Pokemon, returning him to full health. "Just rest in your ball for now."
"Char! Char!" the Charmander looked pleased to receive the aid, and happily returned to his ball.
Ben turned his attention back to the group.
"So how about it? You guys wanna split up and look? I have a PokeGear, so we can stay in contact?"

Rachel frowned. She had just been about to say she'd go to the farm. She furrowed her brow, but then decided against anything confrontational.
"Then I'll go check out the town, I guess. We need an actual lead anyway, and not a vague idea. Maybe someone's reported something to Nurse Joy at the Pokemon Center." Rachel smiled at Rebecca, and pulled out her PokeGear.
