Kurtis sipped on his espresso, enjoying the warmth of the shot of coffee as he downed it. The small cup was empty quickly. He was supposed to meet his friend Roxy here soon.
Beside him, Marcus Nemo sat, enjoying his own light breakfast. Kurtis was feeling much better this morning, now that there weren't any Crobats trying to poison him.
A TV in the cafe murmured, but Kurtis asked for the volume to increase.
Giulia Rossi's voice filled the cafe. "At this time, we believe the Elite four members Harold Commons, Stygian Poe, and Leif Laurel, as well as the gym leader Aden Hayes, are fugitives. My sister, and final member of the Elite Four, is currently hunting gym leader Aden Hayes. The cowardly Elite Four traitors still hide, and cannot be located at this time. Gym leaders and your families, I would urge you, please, get to Fiume. We will keep you safe here, at Haven Corp. We will catch these criminals, but until then, we cannot be anything but cautious. Let us protect you."
Kurtis laughed, growing disinterested in the TV. "Protection? Where was that yesterday?" he joked to Marcus.
The woman on the TV continued, "Trainers, please, at this time, accept our apologies and understanding. All Pokemon League activities are to be halted in this emergency situation. I, as Champion, encourage no trainer to battle at this time. The Elite Four are known to have attacked trainers in mid-battle before, in order to injure or kill them while they're distracted. We do not know how these Elite Four members will operate. For your safety, please, do not battle, stay safe! Hopefully soon, we can stop Aden and his allies. We will not be taking any questions. Good day."
Kurtis looked at Marcus in disbelief. "Stop battling? Fuck that noise." Kurtis sneered. He hoped his other friend would arrive soon.

"F is for Fugitive"
The Drifblim, Zeppelin, drifted slowly to the ground making sure not to give the passengers too rough a landing. Upon landing Roxy lept out of the basket followed by Aden. "Zeppelin. This may be a while, so drop the basket and go enjoy yourself." the young woman patted the Pokemon on its side, unhooking the basket from it. Roxy nodded, a command for Aden to enter the cafe. The two arrived just in time to hear the Champion on the TV. They stood in the entrance listening, Roxy glaring at Aden as Guilia spoke. "You told me you were attacked first, and what I heard of the battle backs that up. But I have only come to this place. What if you are not so innocent?" she folders her arms, a frown on her face, "You wanted me to bring you so you could kill Kurtis. I will not permit it." Her arms loosened and her head lowered. After a moment she looked Aden in the eyes once more, "Nor am I a fool. Lies are easily told, and easily believed given that woman's status. I will hear out the one I have come to see. You should wait here."
Roxy approached Kurtis from behind, tapping him on the shoulder. When Kurtis looked over his shoulder, no one was there. Roxy quickly took a seat in the chair beside him, opposite the direction he looked. The noise of her sitting down was enough to make Kurtis look to his other side. Roxy addressed her friend with a slight smile, "Never was very quiet. Hello, Kurtis."

"Ha. Our beloved Champion, offering protection.. How cute." Marcus took a sip of his first cup of coffee. The fact that it was his first cup explained the cynicism. He proceeded to fork some scrambled eggs into his mouth, almost bitterly. When he finished chewing, he swallowed and then glared at the television. "Might as well say 'Stop defending yourself'. Who does she think she is?"
As Roxy showed up, Marcus looked at the new arrival, suspicious. The news and battling lately had begun to make him think of everyone as a potential attacker, a potential bounty. He guaged Kurtis's reaction to be sure the woman was friendly.

A ride in the Drifblim's basket was actually quite fast for something that doesn't look like it should. On landing, Aden hopped out and stood nearby. They went toward a certain cafe and stopped in the entrance. It took them to hear the news on the TV for Aden to stop completely.
...currently hunting gym leader Aden Hayes...
Just great. It didn't take long before Roxy got a bit agitated with him. Aden let out a sigh and shook his head. "Fine" he told her, trying to avoid gaze of those in the building. He wasn't exactly a nobody and was rather easy to pick out of a crowd. The fire type leader followed Roxy about half a minute behind and sat down at that same table, his hands resting atop it just in case anyone decided to get suspicious. Hopefully he would be fine - luckily his reputation wasn't exactly a violent one. Sure he got fired up in a pokemon battle but he was not one to go too far.

Kurtis stared at the newcomers after they all said hello. He never quite liked Fire-type trainers, but only because they were always a pain to battle with his Pokemon. Aden, however, was his friend, and hardly capable of murder, let alone this massive plot.
"Alright. We all heard her on the news," Kurtis spoke first. There was no getting around the Donphan in the room. "I trust Roxy, but she seems apprehensive too."
Kurtis stared at Aden. "But you haven't attacked me yet, and you would clearly have the advantage if we battled. So why is our champion blaming you for this?"

"Probably because she needs a scapegoat" he replied softly. "She is the one that challenged me, spouting nonsense that our pokemon were brainwashed and forced to fight, and we were tyrants for putting them in that place. She said she was going to 'end it'... and I guess that means taking us out." He folded his hands. "I nearly defeated her... but..." he trailed off, looking at nowhere and no one, remembering the last moments of that battle.

"Don't be hard on yourself," Kurtis patted his friend on the shoulder. He was glad his assumptions about the Fire-type leader were true. "She's beaten all of us at least once. That's why she's champion."
"So what do you guys think we should do?"

"Scapegoat or not, Guilia and him definitely fought. What caught my attention was her yelling about 'Paying for your crimes' and 'something else stupid'." Roxy buried her face in her arms on the table, her voice now muffled slightly "I have to talk to you, Kurtis. Whenever you're done with these two."

"We should find out more. Investigate. We can't use the police, though, and that's... well. Kind of shitty. Technically I could bring you in for a bounty," said Marcus in low tones, so as not to be overheard.
Marcus looked at Aden, sizing the man up. His expression softened, though. Roxy looked like she knew what she was doing, and she was keeping a good eye on Aden. Kurtis seemed to trust them. That was enough for Marcus.
"But I won't, obviously. Hmm. Maybe if we... WAIT. That assassin with the Crobat. I took her to the police. If Guilia hasn't paid off the police, she should still be there, for interrogation or jail. She's a lead for questioning."

"I won't be able to step foot into a police station" he mumbled, knowing full well it was only a matter of time before even the people in this building would notice and start talking. "I don't know if she's paid off the cops...I doubt it, or my brother would have let me know, unless he doesn't even know. This is a mess." He said, thinking of what happened to him and what had happened elsewhere as well.
He had to pause, and looked right at Kurtis.
"Whatever she has planned she is not one to be taken lightly. I would have won, were it not for her Mew."

"Her what?! How the fuck did she get one of those?" Kurtis slammed his hands on the table. Nearby patrons of the cafe turned, but seemed unfazed by the gym leader's aggressiveness. He was a regular here.
"I fought that woman 6 on 6, and I saw all of her Pokemon. She didn't use any legendaries against me."

"Hell if I know Kurtis, but it was definitely a Mew. She sent it after me when she'd won. Luckily Vulcan was there and then Roxy showed up."
The nearby patrons may not have been unfazed at Kurtis, but a few of them started to recognize Aden.

Her voice still muffled, "Yeah, a Mew. It protected Guilia when Blastoise fired the Flash Cannon. I am reluctant to enter this fray, especially since I have my own job to do here and you all seem capable. Regardless of what I decide to do, the one who hasn't introduced himself is right... assuming the police are not in your enemy's pocket."

Marcus blinked at Roxy's words after glowering at the thought of a captured Mew. He didn't care if Guilia was guilty or not, he was going to hunt her down and free that pokemon. "Oh. Right. I'm Marcus. Bounty hunter and pokemon hunter. Caught Kurtis's assassin the other day."
He paused, looking at the television for a second.
"Guilia blames Aden, but on no evidence that I've seen -- just a claim from the Champion, and suddenly her target is being hunted by the region. If she's crooked, she's not fooling around. This could end very badly for anyone involved..."
Marcus trailed off on that optimistic note.

"She hasn't really presented much evidence. Can people really be that blind?"
The silence that followed answered his question.
"So should we go after Giulia?"
