This was what X had been tipped off to. "Duty calls", he thought and took off after the other two trainers who were after his prospective employer, making his way as best as he could over broken ice to make it outside. After they got into the streets, X threw off his jacket, which landed behind a dumpster in a side alley. "I hope I can find that later." he thought, still running as he tied a bandanna around his face. "I really like that jacket." The bandanna, one of the few things he had kept almost half his life, bore a simple white stencil of a logo on a black field. He then pulled a red hoodie from his bag. He threw the bag forward, donned the hoodie over himself, and caught the bag to shoulder it once more. He was ready to go to work.
Ahead, Kurtis Ise was running out of breath. He stopped to face... John, it looked like, who had turned back to delay him. The other one was still going strong, though. He must have been in excellent shape. "But this is what I do." X thought, exhilaration hidden behind his mask. He breathed deeply and easily kept pace.

Marcus was indeed in excellent shape. Standing at 6'6", with a slim running build and plenty of cardio out in the Atra Woods or any number of other wild locations, he easily kept pace. He had followed Kurtis through the twisting streets after the enemy poacher, and had just seen the criminal duck into a dark alley.
"On it!" Shouted Marcus back to Kurtis as he dodged past the Gym leader and his foe in an attempt to catch up with the poacher.
He became aware that he wasn't the only one running though- he had a follower. Part of him wished he had Validus, his Scizor with him. Validus could make one hell of a barrier if he was ordered to. Marcus couldn't even let LegBiter take care of the pursuer, because without his taser rifle, Marcus didn't want to take on an opponent's Pokemon without one of his own.
Still, he had to do something.
"LegBiter! Stone edge and then return!"
Marcus's Kabutops's twin scythe arms bit into the pavement and glow white. From the glow spreading from its blades in the ground, sharp, painful looking rocks shot out in an arc and embedded into the street, creating a bit of a barrier between Marcus and his pursuer. Kabutops was absorbed back into his pokeball as Marcus aimed the red capture beam over his shoulder. He hadn't broken stride, and hopefully the stone edge distracted the guy behind him.
Either way, Marcus ducked his head and sprinted all out for the alleyway ahead hoping the trail wouldn't go cold.

Shortly after he turned to follow the other trainer down the alleyway, X heard the call. "Stone Edge then return!" X planted, turned to the nearest wall and bounded straight up it to a ledge just low enough for him to get his grip. Below him a raging swath of jagged rock tore through the ground, leaving him unable to drop back down. "The floor is lava." he teased to himself. He shimmied along the ledge to give himself something of a head start before he swung back and threw himself across the wall, skirting a few steps along it to push himself as much further along it as he could. Just before he reached the waiting teeth of the ground, X pushed himself out and away from the wall in a long leap, landing just across the rock field.
Upon landing he fell into a roll that absorbed his momentum and rose out of it to assess his situation. He had lost ground between himself and the other trainer, but instead of trying to make it up X decided to hang back at this distance. It would be best if he could tail a bit farther behind and let the trainer assume he had been thwarted than to provoke him again. If he could avoid confrontation he would prefer to. "The best battle is no battle." He thought. There were too many ways a skirmish could go wrong; too many things X couldn't know or account for. Besides, he didn't even know if he was necessary. All he needed to do right now was follow.

Alexander groaned as he heard footsteps enter one end of the alleyway. Gengar materialized next to him as they turned to face the intruder. He wore a brown coat and jeans and didn't look to be out of breath after the chase. Another hunter?
"Have you come to take my prize from me?" He asked.

"Your 'prize' is an extremely rare, precious living being." Marcus spoke quietly but clearly. He looked at the Gengar and then back at Alex. "And you... You're the guy on the poster. Alexander something. 50,000 for taking you in."
Marcus's expression was almost blank, but the slightest furrowing of his brow showed his frustration at the poacher.
The hunter released LegBiter from his pokeball. The Kabutops waited at the man's side silently.

"Oh," Alexander sighed, "You're one of those. We'll do this your way, then."
Gengar stepped forward, malice dripping from his grin.

"Unfeazant, Golem, go!" John smirked as he turned to battle the gym leader.
Kurtis smiled. "Sophie, Icicle Crash on that ugly bird!"
Weavile ran forward, but the bird was ready. Unfeazant dodged all of the Weavile's icy attacks. The bird was ready, and sacrificed its first attack in order to survive. "Pinky, Shadow Ball that Golem, keep it from causing us problems!"
The Froslass floated forward, unleashing a ball of ghostly energy which slammed into the Golem. The Golem shook it off, stamping his feet on the ground. The buildings around the battle began to crack and crumble.
"Watch out!" Kurtis called out, but it was too late. The tops of the buildings fell toward the street, and a slide of building materials fell on the Ice-type.
Froslass was the first to appear after the attack. She looked angry. "Whip up a Blizzard!" Kurtis ordered, as he dove toward the pile of rubble. After moving a few stones, he helped his Weavile out of the mess. She was banged up, but there didn't seem to be any permanent damage.
Kurtis turned back to the battle. The obstinate Golem had dropped to the ground under Froslass's onslaught. Unfeazant, however, tore upward, above the attack. Kurtis only had one choice.
"Pinky, Destiny Bond! We can't let this guy get away!"
Froslass echoed a dreary song as the ugly Unfeazant dove. The bird slammed hard into Froslass, and Pinky cried out in pain. Froslass fell first, but as she did, the Unfeazant's expression turned to pain. The bird wobbled and crashed into the ground. John looked dumbfounded.
"I beat you!" he shouted. "What did you do?!"
"Just because you beat me doesn't mean I'm going to let you escape," Kurtis grinned.
Kurtis threw a Pokeball behind the other man, releasing a massive iceberg of a Pokemon: Avalugg.
"You're not going anywhere," Kurtis dashed forward, trapping John between the Avalugg and himself. It was only a few moments before Kurtis had John subdued.
I hope Marcus and Aden are still doing ok, Kurtis wondered, as he bound John's hands.

Gengar glowed white, the light seeming to give it form as it grew into a white Mega Gengar.
"Let's finish this quickly," Alexander said, "Shadow ball."
The other trainer didn't waste a second either. "LegBiter!" He called, "Use Night Slash!"
The Kabutops' blades turned a shade even darker than the night around them as it charged straight for Gengar. The giant white Pokemon leapt to the right just in time, latching onto the alley wall just long enough to slam its writhing ball of darkness into LegBiter's side. The Kabutops was launched against the alley's other wall, knocked instantly unconscious.
"There you go, would-be-hero." Alexander chided. "I would suggest you leave before Gengar does the same thing to you."
Alexander turned around, grabbing his stached hunting rifle as he did so. That was almost very bad. He thought. It would've been a huge pain to have to shoot this guy with so many people within earshot. He found Remus behind the trash can and scratched the Houndoom under the chin.
"Come Remus, it's time to get paid." Alexander turned his head to the left to speak to Gengar. "Bring up the rear, my friend. If the trainer follows us, kill him."

Marcus gritted his teeth in pain at the sight of LegBiter getting hammered by the powerful shadow ball. He unconsciously reached across his shoulder for his taser rifle, but remembered it wasn't there. The white Mega Gengar had orders to kill Marcus if he advanced, and Marcus was now hopelessly defenseless.
Damn it, and Validus was still resting from the last hunt. The Scizor could surely handle Gengar's strong shadowball... but he wasn't here, and Marcus had no time for wishing.
He glared at the taunting figure of the Gengar, returned LegBiter to his Poke Ball, and then made his way back to Kurtis and towards the Pokemon Center. Legbiter had tough armor, but he could still be badly injured enough, especially from a blow like that, to get him to a medical person right away. If he told Kurtis about the criminal escaping, perhaps he could do something about it. Marcus, on the other hand, had a responsibility to his pokemon.
Despite the logical next set of moves, Marcus couldn't help but feel a shameful anger rising in his chest.
He would get revenge. LegBiter hated defeats as well. For both of them, Marcus hoped that he got a re-match soon.

Aden continued to run, past Kurtis with a wave, until he saw his Talonflame in battle with a Skarmory above the streets. "Damnit" he cursed, stopping underneath where the battle was taking place. They had been going at it for a short while now. Long enough though, that Talonflame would not be able to pick up the trail from the sky again, not with the winding Terna City streets. He knew the battle was stall tactics so he just put it to an end by recalling his pokemon, as well as tackling the street vendor responsible. He 'forced' the man to return the Skarmory and bound the man's hands. The main culprit got away...but maybe this vendor would know something. Walking him there, Aden returned toward Kurtis, Vendor in tow.

Kurtis stood with the culprit John sitting at his feet. He turned to see Aden approaching, another man in hand.
"Well, at least we got thsee two!" Kurtis smiled and waved as the Fire-type gym leader approached.
I wonder if that other kid was as successful, Kurtis thought, as Aden cam close.
Up ahead, Kurtis heard clomping down the alley, and saw his friend Guy approaching, running at a swift, but manageable pace.
"If that hunter escaped," Kurtis said, as both men were now in earshot, "we're gonna need to organize a man-hunt, now."

X approached the two as the man with the Gengar was threatening to kill the other trainer. "That was a quick fight." He slunk into the shadows to wait. Had the black market hunter seen him? He couldn't tell. The other turned and walked past X on his way back out of the alley looking scorned. "Was that guy rooting for me back in the plaza?" He thought on this for a moment. "Well at least he made it out alright."
X waited where he was until the trainer was out of sight. In that time the black market hunter had also disappeared. X's job was done. There was no need to be more involved than necessary. The plaza, however, would not be a safe place for him any more. Questions would most likely be asked of anyone who returned. "Damn. I guess that's all I'm going to get out of it, then." But the evening wasn't a loss. At the very least, he walked away knowing he could stand up to a gym leader. With that satisfaction, X cautiously crept the way back to retrieve his jacket and begin the journey home.

"Aaaaand, I'm here. Don't worry everyone, I'll save the day." Guy said sarcastically while trying to catch his breath. "In the future, Kurtis, slow down a bit. I want to be part of the action, too. Anyway, I decided to take a few pictures of the mosaic since I knew you were long gone." Guy showed Kurtis the pictures on his PokeGear, "I would love to help with your hunt, but I want to study these."
Guy noticed Aden approaching with a man in tow. Noticing the man's hands were bound, Guy looked Aden in the eyes with a straight face, "I didn't know you were into bondage."

Marcus soon arrived to the gathering, looking frustrated.
"He got away. I need to get my Kabutops to the Pokemon Center." He spoke quietly again, but his words were well enunciated.
"Gym Leader Ise, right? Sorry that I wasn't able to catch him. He can use Key Stones though -- it surprised me -- and his Mega Gengar... It's dangerous. Be careful. Here's my contact info if you get any leads. For now, though, I bet he's gone into hiding. Also, there was someone pursuing me when I was chasing the criminal -- may have been another criminal, maybe not." Marcus handed over a torn piece of paper with his information. He looked at the other Gym Leader, the professor, and the other assorted trainers, and gave them a nod of acknowledgement and thanks for the help during the chase.

"Don't worry about it," Kurtis tried to mask his disappointment. John began to chuckle.
"I knew he'd get away," the bound man laughed.
"Someone call the police," Kurtis responded, kicking the man hard enough to shut him up. "Maybe we can get something out of these two about where that poacher was taking the Celebi."
"Marcus," Kurtis turned to the trainer. "I must say, I'm impressed by your initiative. You didn't have to try to help us. Please, I'd like to extend to you an invitation to challenge my gym. A trainer like you is exactly the kind of person I enjoy battling the most. If you'd like, I plan on traveling back to Taurinno soon. You're welcome to join me."
