Tang sipped his tea quietly, eyeing the intruders to the ruins. An ancient court of Teucrus was sacred, especially to him. The great ancient king had understood the importance of the four great Pokemon. Still as Teucrus taught, nothing is permanent. Perhaps these transgressions lead to progress. Either that or the ancient defense mechanisms would deal with the intruders.
Tang emptied the tea, too sweet for his taste. Motioning to his Hitmonlee, the two departed. Harena was a long walk, but the time would allow for some deep thought.

Alexander reached inside his suit coat and grabbed the lone occupied Pokeball, subsequently releasing his Houndoom.
"Remus, keep close. Who knows what these ancient templ--"
He was interrupted by a slight shifting of mechanical gears to his right. A section of wall slid open and 3 spears rocketed out to impale Alexander. And they would have, if dust and rotting wood hadn't stopped the spears halfway out of the wall, one of them snapping outright as soon as its weight wasn't supported fully.
Alexander snorted in derision. "Yet again, the plans of the past fail to contend with anything the future has to offer." He whispered to himself and his Pokemon, "Fitting that it failed to stop our progress. Come, Remus, you know what must be done."

Aden still stood near Flare and was enjoying it. Every now and then a kid would ask him to sign something, be it a pokeball or small notebook. Eventually the fire-type leader started to wander, the Arcanine by his side. The cold didn't bug him much, since he was wearing his ever-present scarf and quite happy for it. Looking up, he saw the region champion fly away leaving a near-tears girl standing there. He stepped toward her and tapped the girl on the shoulder. "If you want to see a battle that badly Flare and I would be happy to oblige" he told her, turning to look at his partner. "What do you think?" he asked the girl, trying to help her calm down. "I know I'm not the champion, but I'm pretty darn close if I do say so myself."

It was a strange occurrence when X was greeted, especially when he had not spoken first. When he heard his name he broke his observation of the League Champion to find his caller.
“X! Is that you?” John said as he approached.
“Names, John! Names!” X replied in a harsh whisper.
“Right! Sorry.” John appologized. “But fancy seeing you here! It might be my lucky day. You don't still run, do you?”
“3 miles every morning.”
“Huh? Oh. No I meant-”
“Relax, John. It was a joke.”
“Oh, haha, good one... So, do you?”
“Depends. What's the job?”
“A guy named- uh, I mean a hunter just got into the ruins back behind me and needs a backup if things go south. He just said to keep an eye on the ruins.”
X gave it a seconds thought. “...Yeah. I think I can do that. But I hope he doesn't expect me to help fight him out. There are way too many fighters here and I need to keep my license. Best I can do is probably make a swap if he needs to dump and make a break. Huh?”
Hearing a collective gasp from the crowd, X turned to see Rossi rising into the air atop a Togekiss. “No!” He exclaimed under his breath. But it was too late. “Damn it! If push came to shove... If she had just left normally I could have at least challenged her myself!”
“Well I guess she's done” John said. But X wasn't listening. He had already started moving through the crowd towards a trainer suggesting a quick exposition match. By what he was saying, it sounded like he was of some high standing in the league, and as far as X figured, if he had lost his chance at the champ, he might as well scope out what he could. “I'll take you up on that.” X said upon weaving through the ring of onlookers.
Accepting 1v1 challenge from Aden Hayes.

"Let me take a look," Kurtis replied, climbing up the steps toward the researcher.
Kurtis looked at the mosaic that sprawled across the floor. The shards were beautiful, matched together in intricate and colorful patterns and imagery.
"There's the landing of Teucrus, at Harena Town," Kurtis pointed. "And here's the Arcanine with the twins, Ternius and Tomeus, founders of Terna City who were raised by a wild Arcanine."
The crowd on the other side of the empty stage began to buzz. Kurtis looked over.
"Look, a battle, perfect! That'll distract the guards!" Kurtis observed. He looked back at the mosaic. There were still empty branches awaiting an event to fill them.
"We should check the other temples for more mos-" Kurtis stopped mid-sentence. He couldn't believe his eyes. Kurtis had only seen a Pokemon this rare once before (and coincidentally the company had been the same). There, floating upside down above him as he stood in the middle of the temple dedicated to time, was a Celebi.

Marcus had watched the Gym Leader, Kurtis Ise, and his friend sneak in to the ruins. He didn't care that much, but he WAS curious. If he ever challenged the Gym Leader, he'd have to ask him about that.
Nearby, a crowd was forming: it didn't take long to hear from the noise who was battling: a person named 'some punk' and the Gym Leader of Terna City. "Bread and circuses..." muttered Marcus, but he walked over to watch the battle anyway. He decided to cheer for the 'punk'. Something about the guy, maybe the cool bomber jacket, appealed to Marcus. He always favored an underdog. Standing tall, almost reminiscent of a tree, Marcus peered over the crowd to enjoy the spectacle.
A gust of wind blew up a wanted poster that had been discarded on the ground. It pasted itself to his shirt for a moment. He read it to himself. It said: "Alexander Midas, Highly Dangerous, for assault, theft of Pokemon, attempted murder. Reward: $50,000, ALIVE."
Marcus raised an eyebrow, shrugged, and tossed the poster away.
It was the holidays -- why should he work? Marcus focused on the impending battle instead.

"Alright, good to hear!" Aden exclaimed, taking a few steps back. The crow parted to make space, and the little girl who wanted to see the battle dried her tears and sniffled, ready to watch. A smile crossed her face and she clapped. Aden took a few steps away and motioned for Flare to step forward. The Arcanine did so and waited.

"A fire-type huh?" X thought for a moment then, "Go! Flicker!". The Chandelure emerged from it's pokeball, an eerie stare piercing the world before it and X chuckled softly. "You know what they say. I'm ready when you are."
"Then let's get started!" Aden replied happily. "Flare! Wild Charge!" "Break him down Flicker!"
The enormous canine padded swiftly forward, softly displacing air in its wake, and began to crackle white hot. It built energy and by the time it reached its destination, had become completely shrouded in plasma. It planted one last step before leaping into the air to impact head first with its opponent. Flicker reeled from the blow and was nearly knocked from the air as Flare gracefully recovered from the collision. "Well that's something you don't see every day." In retaliation the Chandelure turned its malevolent gaze on its aggressor and sprayed forth a warped blast of color and sound that caught the Arcanine with the full force of... nothing. The attack had left its recipient completely unharmed.
"Focus Flare!" called Aden. "Hit it again!"
The canine again sprang forward, but it was different this time. It again built momentum as it charged, but all the usual prowess was gone. It made its approach and planted one last step before toppling drunkenly into the ground in front of its opponent. "Get him." X spoke. Flicker again focused his gaze on Flare and watched the pokemon burn in the unnatural flames that licked its body.
"Shake it off Flare! Focus! You can do this!"
Upon hearing his trainer's command, Flare rolled and rose, scorn and fury in his eyes. One last time he began his charge, steadily building thunder to match his temperament. "You have to finish it now!" X coached. Flicker began to focus and was struck squarely once more. As the Chandelure lurched in the air, distress pulling at its expression, its attacker turned to bring forth a finishing blow. "Come on! Come on! Now!" X shouted. She tightened her gaze and the opposing fire-type burned once more. Flicker's expression became one of malice and triumph upon watching Flare wince and collapse under the strain.
"Alright, you. That's enough. Good job." X lauded his pokemon as he returned it. He tried to stay calm and collected, but wasn't sure if he could conceal his excitement. "That was, close! Who did you say you are?"

Remus growled, stalking towards the two dark figures a temple over.
"What is it Remus? Are the--" Then he saw it. The Celebi, floating just above one of the figures heads. A grin spread across his face. "Excellent. Good work my friend. You know the drill."
Remus nodded in assent as Alexander and Gengar made their way toward a darker area of the square where they could successfully hide. As they were getting into position, Remus stalked toward the floating Celebi, keeping low to avoid being spotted. When he got close, his years of training with Alexander kicked in. He leapt up onto a broken pillar, launching off it and over the two humans' heads, fire streaming from his mouth toward the Celebi. It panicked and flew away from the flamethrower, right in the direction Alexander was waiting. As the Celebi flew close, Gengar leapt from the shadows, sludge spewing from his mouth and covering the airborne Pokemon. It dipped lower and Gengar grabbed it’s shadow, slamming it to the ground and taking the Celebi with it. Alexander ran forward, punching the Celebi in the face, stopping the struggle of both the shadow and the actual Celebi. He pulled an Ultra Ball out of his suit coat and pressed it to the Celebi, trapping it inside.
Alexander got up and ran back toward the party, Gengar spewing sludge behind them and Remus taking position in front of him. They broke through the barrier separating the party from the ruins, Remus spitting fire in front of him to clear the way. Party guests scattered before him, helped along by a few familiar faces that John had warned to be on the lookout. Alexander cleared the crowd, making off into the night with the captured Celebi.

Kurtis glared at the trainer as he escaped with a trail of sludge. Kurtis snapped open a Pokeball, and Pinky, his Froslass dashed out of its Pokeball.
"Pinky, give me a path, now!" Kurtis ordered, before the ghost-type could get distracted.
Froslass blasted the area with ice, covering the sludge. Kurtis dashed forward, moving as fast as he could on the ice while maintaining his footing. Weavile dashed forward, her claws tearing the icy path up enough for Kurtis to climb out of the excavated ruins.
Kurtis climbed out to witness the hunter dash forward, parting the crowd with the flaming Houndoom.
Alexander had reached the other end of the crowd by the time Kurtis could call out.
"That asshole just poached a Celebi!"
The crowd murmured in disbelief. Kurtis ignored them, pushing through the bodies.
"Sophie, Pinky, we can't let that hunter escape!"
The three tore through the crowd, Froslass blasting people with bitter winds, and Sophie shoving her way through. They broke through, and took off, pursuing Alexander.

"Welp, this is a thing now. Shouldn't let this opportunity go to waste, though. Don't know if this'll be here tomorrow." Guy knelt down to take a few pictures of the mosaic with his PokeGear. "That should suffice. I hope Kurtis doesn't get mad at me for taking my time... ha. Time."
Guy stepped onto the ice, falling face first. He picked himself up with a groan, "I am sure Kurtis has this. I supppose being late won't hurt..."
The Professor decided on taking the way they came instead of the icy path, hoping to catch up.

Marcus was quick to cheer for X's victory. It was a good battle, and the guy had just beat a Gym Leader!
However, he was about to eat his earlier decision to throw away the wanted poster as a man and a Houndoom split the crowd in a hurry. Before Marcus could wonder what was the rush, a voice -- Kurtis Ise's -- shouted something about poaching Celebi. Poaching? Fuckers like that made hunters like Marcus look bad. Not on his watch. Cursing the lack of rain, Marcus talked to Kabutops -- or at least, Kabutops's pokeball.
"LegBiter, get ready for winter. We're probably going to battle."
With that, the tall man made his way after the Ice Gym Leader and the poacher. Marcus couldn't track someone on asphalt, so he hoped following Kurtis would lead him to the criminal.
Hopefully he wouldn't have to duel over the bounty.

At the end of the battle, Aden held the blue and yellow quick ball to call Flare back to rest. He walked over to the trainer and held out his hand, still smiling. "Aden Hayes. I'm the Gym Leader here in Terna. That was a impressive, nice-" he didn't finish his sentence before hearing Kurtis's voice echo across the crowd. A stolen Celebi? Aden grimaced and looked at X. "We'll have to finish this conversation later, my apologies." He placed Flare's pokeball back on his belt but pulled one away in the same motion.
"Delos, follow him!" he called, throwing the ball into the air. It flashed, and the red and black blur of a Talonflame burst forth and started tailing the now fleeing hunter that was getting away from Kurtis.

Alexander ran through the streets with his two Pokemon, slipping the Ultra Ball into a hidden pocket opposite all his empty Pokeballs. He heard labored breathing and, glancing back, saw John struggling to keep pace right behind him.
"John!" Alexander exclaimed, "I think that Ice-type jackass is following me! Delay him!"
John gave a thumbs up and stopped, lifting up his shirt to grab one of two Pokeballs on his belt. Alexander kept running south, aiming to lose any followers in the twisting streets. He mentally patted himself on the back for devising an escape route beforehand. If he was heading the right direction... Yes! There he was! A street vendor they had planted earlier. Alexander was about to call out to him when the street vendor pointed.
"That yours?" He called out, pointing to a Talonflame a short distance behind Alexander.
"Nooooope! Alexander yelled, running past the vendor. The man pulled out a Pokeball to delay the bird, and Alexander turned another corner, Remus and Gengar right beside him.
Almost there... Alexander thought, then stopped. He had forgotten which street to turn on next. In the light of a streetlamp his shadow stretched up a wall, point to the street to Alexander's right.
"Thanks, Gengar." he sighed, bolting into the alley. He stopped in the middle, facing the way he had just came, with the other open end of the alley to his back. This was definitely the spot. Making sure the item he had hidden her before the party was within grabbing range, Alexander turned to Remus.
"Hold this, Remus." Alexander pulled out the Ultra Ball with Celebi in it, placing it in the Houndoom's jaws. "Stay hidden, don't give that to anyone unless I give you the okay."
The Houndoom nodded, slinking behind a trashcan, all but unseen.

Kurtis wheezed as he continued pursuing the hunter and his accomplice. He was really gonna have to work on his cardio.
The hunter was so far ahead. Above him, Kurtis heard the calls of a Talonflame. Good, his colleague Aden was in the chase too. Behind him more footsteps echoed. Another trainer was in the chase, excellent.
The accomplice of the hunter stopped. Behind him, Kurtis still heard the other trainer.
"Go on ahead!" Kurtis ordered whoever was running behind him. "Catch that poacher. I'll deal with this jackass! Sophie, Pinky, let's go!"
Kurtis stopped, and the trainer he had heard called John stood before him.
"Well, come on," Kurtis smiled as his Weavile and Froslass arrived by his side. "Let's see what you've got."
