Laniakeia sits in her tiny studio apartment in Fiume, looking over her careful plots of the Ruins of Crossanium. "No, this isn't good, Aquarius!" she says to her Starmie. "HUHHH!" Starmie postulates. Grabbing at a star chart, Starmie flings the paper onto Lani's cluttered desk. Irritated, Lani glares at Aquarius before looking back down at the translucent chart that lines up with the paper plot below. "AQUA, DARLING!!! YOU ARE A GENIUS! I MUST CALL THE PROFESSOR!" Starmie recoils at the loud outburst from its colleague. It digs the phone out from under another pile of old newspaper clippings and hands it to Lani, who furiously dials the number of which she so desperately needs to call, oblivious of the late hour in her dark abode. The phone at The Pokemon Laboratory is ringing off the hook! I sure hope someone is around to answer it.

After calling back several times while madly typing out her latest thesis on how astronomy and ancient architecture are so obviously linked a Slowpoke could get it, Lani gives up and leaves a final message and call-back number.
"You'd think some calamity were occurring in the region, sheesh," she mutters to herself. Saving her document before shutting down her aging PC, she wanders to the kitchen to prepare a meal she and her Pokemon can all enjoy. "I am ever so glad that this is the most peaceful region on the planet! It's perfect for looking up at the stars!" She continues stirring her whole-grain pasta shells and tamato berry sauce with some fresh parsley from her indoor garden, much to her chagrin.

Days earlier...
-click-
Happy that his tapping had gone undetected by his sister, Deneb knew that her little discovery had to be known, and fast. Under the instruction of his parents, he got to work on his new costume that should get him into the Laboratory. He'd wait a day before setting out there early in the morning, before any guests could possibly arrive.
His Malamar, Au Contraire, chuckled to itself. He knew that there would be guests, and that his plans wouldn't exactly line up the way Lani's stars did. He chuckled even more at the fact that Deneb's costume couldn't fool hardly anyone for very long...

Present...
"Professor Stella and Professor Laundry here! Please pick up, Lani!AAAAAKEAIAAA." Shoot! Laniakeia! Only you and everyone else calls her Lani! Don't blow your cover! Act natural!
"I'm busy cooking!" Lani shouted, nowhere to be seen on the monitor.
"Oh, um, Professor Laurel, I mean! About your so-called discovery?"

"Oh! Yes! Professor Stella? You must be with Professor Cozmo's team here working on getting new telescopes? Anyway, it's nice to hear from you."
She rushed over to the camera, taking a seat.
"Oh. May I see the Professor? You're blocking her from view. You see, the ruins near Parsley Town completely correlate to the Staross Formation, once used by sailors to know when to begin their voyage to gather important herbs and berries...Well, I think the ruins must have helped them know just when to make that journey! Furthermore, on the first day of the rising of the Staross, the sun shines directly over the eastern-most column, you see? And well, if you consider that on the first day of the harvest, the sun aligns with the western-most column just before sunset..."
She was rambling again. Her Starmie was sweating behind her. It wasn't the Staross Constellation that was important here. She meant something else entirely, which surely the seasoned Professor Laurel knew of. Otherwise, everything she mentioned had aligned at the right times.
"By the way, Professor Stella... you look sorta familiar. But that's not important now, is it Professor Laurel?"

"I don't know what that has to do with what I fou-" Laurel was cut off as Guy walked into the room, being loud.
"I have only been asleep five minutes before getting woke up, and it's not like I can go upstairs because there are boxes everywhere. Also, why is there is squid covered in paint in the lab?" surely he sounded in the distance to Laniakeia. "Why is your hair so green? Is this a dream? Who is that guy in the wig? This is a dream."
Laurel turned back to the screen, "Anyway, what does that have to do with what I found?"

"I uh...I um. I just thought, maybe? Um. Wait. Au Contraire? Deneb, is that you? Why are you dressed like an old man? You're in big trouble!"
Suddenly, a loud beeping noise is heard in the background. As Lani turns around, the screen goes black around a large flame coming from the stove top. The scent of burning Tamato berries is strong enough to make Aquarius tear up, in addition to unleashing a flood in terror of the loud noise and fire. To make matters worse, sprinklers deploy from the ceiling, extinguishing the flames, and ruining thousands of papers, years of research. Next to the water-proofed phone, a computer is seen short-circuiting. Lani has no back-ups.
She is seen staring at the screen in abject horror.
"I'll call you back. Or you know what? I should just get on over there. See you soon." Her voice is flat and lifeless. She forgets to hang up.
