Harold coughed a moment, cursing his addiction to the infernal cigarette dangling between his fingers. He checked his golden watch, ensuring his suit was well adjusted and nice looking before he pressed on the massive doors of the Cathedral before him. Harold was an older man, in his fifties, dressed in a well-tailored gray suit. His salt-and-pepper hair gave way to a massive bald spot on the top of his head, which he consistently covered with a bowler cap. He pulled another drag off of his cigarette before shoving his way into the gym.
"Titania, I wish to have a word with you," he announced in his gravelly, deep voice.
Harold's word echoed across the cathedral. Silence answered. The Elite Four member took a final drag on the cigarette between his lips before dropping it to the ground and smashing it on the slick, marble floor.
"Titania!" he shouted again, the volume irritating his throat enough to induce a series of short coughs.
That's when the Fairy-type gym leader appeared. She was radiant as ever, dressed in a simple white dress embroidered in light pink with images of Fairy Pokemon. Harold noted the bit of regret in his stomach for what he would have to do next. Titania had always been one of the friendliest of gym leaders. It was unfortunate for her that the world did not restrain itself from the destruction of beautiful things.
"Titania, I'm glad you've finally joined me," Harold smiled, revealing his yellowing teeth as he grabbed a Pokeball from his belt.
"Harold," the gym leader looked at him with caution, "I wasn't expecting a visit from you. Is there something I can help you with?"
"I'm afraid not," Harold released his Pokemon, a Kangaskhan he had trained for many years.
"Harold," Titania's look turned stern, "what are you doing?"
"I'm very sorry dear," Harold spoke with no emotion. "I have to end your time as gym leader, permanently."
Titania was not afraid. She understood too clearly. Luckily for Harold, she only had one Pokeball in hand. "Go Audino!" She shouted, as the keystone in her hairpin began to glow. The Audino was released, mega evolving in a beautiful flash.
Harold nodded. "Kang, Karl, you too."
The Kangaskhan nodded, and the smaller Kangaskhan in her pouch jumped out, growing in size and strength as the keystone on Harold's right cuff link began to glow.
When the Kangaskhan was finished, the battle began. Harold ordered his Kangaskhan to attack with a Body Slam, but the Audino had already been ordered to use Protect.
"Kangaskhan, quick, before she can Protect again, use Power-Up Punch!"
The two Pokemon moved in unison, with the mother Kangaskhan slamming Audino in the face with a solid hay maker, while the smaller Pokemon delivered a hit to the Fairy Pokemon's gut. Harold's Pokemon then jumped away, roaring and flexing with the double power boost they had just gained.
"Audino, Double Edge!" Titania ordered, as her Pokemon moved forward.
Audino slammed hard into the larger Kangaskhan, knocking it down. Audino then stumbled back, damaged by the attack herself.
"Kangaskhan, another Power-Up Punch!"
"Audino, Wish!"
Kangaskhan major and minor moved forward, both readying a punch. The Audino closed its eyes and Wished, the regenerative effects starting to become visible. That's when the Kangaskhans' attack landed. Audino took both super-powered hits hard, reeling back and reverting from her Mega form.
Titania looked terrified, as the Kangaskhan grabbed hold of the Audino and twisted its neck with a sickening snap. "Please Harold, you don't have to do this! Why are you doing this?!"
Harold felt a twinge of regret, but then remembered the Champion's words.
"We battle Pokemon together constantly, sending our friends to take damage for us time after time. It's time we put an end to it. This isn't about you Titania. This is about ending the league that perpetuates violence against Pokemon!"
"Please, no, these Pokemon are my friends!" Titania pleaded, as the Mega Kangaskhan moved closer. "I would never abuse any of them!"
"It's too late for that," Harold was not happy with what he was about to do. "We all must pay for our sins."
Titania's eyes were filled and watering, but she did not cry. "Please, just don't hurt my daughters. They haven't done a thing."
Harold looked at the woman for a moment longer. "I'm sorry, but they will join you soon. Kangaskhan, finish her."
Titania screamed in protest as the Kangaskhan moved in, grabbing the woman by the head and slamming her against the marble floor. Her body crumpled under the force of the attack. Titania was dead.
