Kurtis sat, defeated, alone, and irritated.
He hadn't seen his Pokemon since Lisa had taken his belt. That was the hardest on him. Even Sophie had been in her ball when he was abducted. He wished the Weavile were with him now.
He had tried the bars on the cell a few times, cursing louder every time, but ultimately the cell was well-built.
Kurtis resigned himself to the small bed in the corner. He wasn't going anywhere any time soon.

Aden hadn't been in Fiume City for quite some time. His home was Terna, and the only time he really ventured out this way was to see his little brother. His entrance into town was quick and quiet - his Arcanine was one of the fastest, and no one really paid the blur any attention as it passed by. If anyone noticed it was truly him, oh well. Now was not the time to hide in fear. The plan aside, Giulia was threatening every pokemon trainer that belonged to the league. That meant his friends, family, and colleagues. He was not having any of it. As he and Flare approached the towering Haven Corp. HQ building they slowed, first to a run, then to a fast walk. When the pair reached the area in front of the building, they stopped. He remained on his Arcanine's back, for part of the plan. For now though, he patted the great fire dog on the neck and whispered something to him.
With a howl, Flare lifted it's head to the sky and let a bright orange pillar of fire from its mouth into the sky.

Olivia saw the pillar of fire. Now was the time.
"Remember, no matter what happens, you need to stay at the gym," she had told Wake, her Wartortle, when they arrived in the city. Things were getting too dangerous for the old turtle.
Now, she sat on the edge of one of the canals. Her Starmie floated near her.
"Time to get to work," she spoke to the Pokemon, dropping herself into the water.
It was a short swim to the back of the Haven Corp tower. A quick Ice Beam from Starmie made the metal grate brittle enough to break. Olivia surfaced one last time, taking a deep breath before heading through the grate, arms latched around her Starmie.

"Ah fuck." Marcus had seen the signal all right, and he was only half in his Haven Corp maintenance jumpsuit. Damn thing was his size but was off in various uncomfortable ways, just a little too tight there, a little too loose here. That's what he got for stealing it from the dryer in a laundromat. It took him a few seconds to slip the rest of the suit on and stash his Pokemon in a toolbag.
He put on his helment, and suddenly he was Gary Newman, Haven Corp. Plumber.
Gary Newman walked out to observe with a lot of curiosity what the hubub was in front of his work place.
Gary Newman just wanted to get to work, in the basement, where the plumbing had been doing bad plumbing things. If anyone asked too many questions, he could begin ranting about getting sewage under his fingernails to divert their attention elsewhere. He was the late night shift guy, which is why no one recognized him. The Maintenance in the basement had asked him to come in to fix a problem, because the other plumber was on vacation.
Gary Newman smiled for a moment, before looking curious once again.

Kurtis heard something going on outside, but it was only noticeable due to his sheer boredom.
He lamented the lack of his Pokemon, and crossed his arms.

"What do you mean he's outside?" Giulia glared at the messenger.
She turned, opening her window, and saw the Fire-type leader and his Arcanine.
A few moments later, she stepped foot out of the elevator, heading for the entrance.
"Aden, nice of you to visit," she had a sick smile when she emerged from the building.
"I'll give you one chance to surrender," she warned, grabbing a Pokeball from her belt.

Aden looked from his perch atop Flare to the woman who dared make a scapegoat of him. With a somewhat kind smile he leaned in a bit.
"I think if you wish me to surrender, you'll have to actually catch me."
He moved backward slightly in his position on the Arcanine and leaned forward much like a high-speed bicycle racer.
"I'm through battling with you Giulia, how about a race instead."
There was only the briefest of pauses between that and the only command the champion would hear.
"Flare, Extremespeed."
With that single word, he and his fire dog were down the road.

Olivia surfaced in a small drainage tube. It smelled like shit.
"Break into Haven Corp, they said," she sighed. "We can save Kurtis, they said."
She patted her Starmie, diving back under. Marcus had better get there quick.

Mr.Gary Newman flinched at the sudden action commenced with Aden's flight, and staying out of the way of the Haven Corp security, he strode over to the doors, doing his best imitation of looking concerned for the situation. Then he moved inside, looking back at the scene and then shrugging at the person at the information desk.
Gary Newman then turned away, and made his way to the nearest elevator. He hit the down button and then shifted his toolbag a bit as he waited. The elevator arrived, and he stepped inside. He hit the button for the basement level. Olivia was within 20 meters, no doubt. Soon, the success rate of this mission would double if he could get to her. The elevator doors opened and he walked quickly, looking around for signs that would point him in the direction of the canal hatch room. He was in luck, and he was off to get the Gym leader.
Hopefully the staff were too busy to bother noticing him.

The elevator dinged. What the hell? Nobody came down here. And the shift change wasn't for another three hours.
The sound of the inflated balloons holding the building above the water hummed.
The grunt looked around, clicking on his flashlight to see who had just joined him in the basement.

Needless to say, Giulia was frustrated.
"Mew, go!" she shouted. "Please, track down that monster."
"Togekiss, go! Take me to the top of Haven Corp!"
The Pokemon pulled her into the air, taking her to the top. With the view, she saw the flash of Aden's Arcanine racing away from the building.
"Lets go!" she told her Togekiss, holding on as the Pokemon soared toward her enemy. She wouldn't let him get away this time.
The Mew was closing on Aden, and Giulia wasn't too far behind. Try and get away this time, she thought to herself, as she approached.

Aden didn't hear what pokemon Giulia called, though he assumed if she was a livid with him as she claimed, it was the Mew. He still wasn't sure how she'd gotten one of the mythical pokemon on board with her crusade, and probably never would. Knowing he was still being chased, he called out a few words.
"Flare, Heat Wave!"
The Arcanine came to a sudden stop and its fur bristled, creating a bubble of heat around it at first before it started to spread into the air. Where the hot air moved, the air rippled with a sheen like a mirror. Quite skilled with heat and flames, Aden was creating a mirage just around himself in this square. He moved again, nudging the fire dog into another extremespeed headed in a Northwestern direction while the mirror-like reflection of the hot air showed him going Southwest.

Olivia kicked her legs, propelling herself through the murky water, clutching her Starmie's arms. She was glad she had kept a pair of goggles with her; the water in Fiume was still a little gross, despite her recent cleaning project. Still, at least she knew she wouldn't get sick swimming in the water, or worse, attacked by a Grimer.
There was the hatch, a few meteres ahead. Olivia swam past the foundation supports, toward the round door. She had been right about the air pocket beneath the concaved door, and she surfaced inside, swallowing a deep breathe. Starmie tapped on its ball, returning. There were a couple minutes worth of air here, Olivia decided. She would have to swim back to the canals soon, if Marcus didn't show up.

Gary Newman saw the beam of light hit the wall facing the corridor before he turned around the corner. His relaxed, I-belong-here demeanor shifted, and he became Marcus. He stopped, and moved as quickly and silently as he could back around to the other corridor on the other side of the elevator. This time he peeked to make sure there wasn't anyone there. He suspected that the basement was less welcoming of maintenance staff than he had expected. All three of his Pokemon would make noise and be easily observable, so he restrained himself from bringing them out of their pokeballs. He had a job to do, and he couldn't always rely on them to fix things. Instead, Marcus reached into his bag, working very fast. He knew he had a minute, tops, and less time if the person belonging to the flashlight was very suspicious or had heard him. In his bag was a pipe wrench. He passed this over in favor of the two part stock-and-barrel assembly of his shock rifle. Normally he used this on Pokemon, as the round it fired did a good imitation of a Thunder Wave, and made an overly aggressive or violent wild Pokemon stop in its tracks, allowing Marcus to get away while it ate the Cheri berry he left for it. Setting the barrel into the stock, screwing in the barrel lock, and loading the short-range cartridge, Marcus looked for the tell-tale beam of the flashlight, ready to turn around the corner and quickly dispatch whoever was down here with him.
